Ready to lead audit with focus and autonomy?

This is a senior leadership role for a Registered Company Auditor who wants to focus entirely on what they do best, leading high-quality external audits, building strong client relationships, and developing a high-performing team.

At National Audits Group, audit is not a service line. It is all we do.

We are one of Australia’s genuinely independent, audit-only firms. Our model is built around deep specialisation, strong professional standards, and the belief that audit deserves its own platform, leadership, and investment.

We are looking for an Audit Director to lead our Sydney external audit practice. This is a genuine leadership role with autonomy, accountability, and the opportunity to shape your own business unit.

You will oversee a ~$3.0 million audit portfolio and be responsible for audit quality, team performance, client outcomes, and risk management.

What you will do

  • Act as Registered Company Auditor and signing partner for Sydney statutory audits
  • Lead and develop a high-performing audit team across Managers, Seniors, and Auditors
  • Own and strengthen senior client relationships across corporate, NFP, and regulated entities
  • Provide technical leadership on complex audit, accounting, and regulatory matters
  • Oversee audit quality, workflow effectiveness, and risk management within your portfolio
  • Contribute to firm strategy, growth initiatives, and technology-enabled audit delivery

This is a pure audit leadership role. Your time and energy are focused on audit, not competing service lines.

What you will bring

Essential:

  • Registered Company Auditor (RCA), current ASIC registration
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Minimum 10 years’ Australian external audit experience, including signing responsibility
  • Experience managing a significant audit portfolio (ideally $1M+ in fees)
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards
  • Proven leadership capability, including mentoring, performance management, and team development
  • Confident communicator with senior clients, Boards, and audit committees

Desirable:

  • Experience across corporate, NFP, and/or AFSL audits
  • Familiarity with Caseware, FYI, or similar audit platforms
  • Experience working with offshore or multi-location delivery models
  • Interest in technology-enabled audit and AI-supported workflows

Why this role stands out

  • Own your practice – Lead your own business unit with real autonomy and accountability
  • Stay focused on audit – No competing service lines, no dilution of expertise
  • Meaningful client relationships – Direct engagement with Boards and executive teams
  • Influence the firm – Be part of shaping strategy, growth, and future direction
  • Values-driven culture – Collaborative, respectful, and built around people
  • Flexible working – Hybrid model with trust and clear expectations
  • A firm with momentum – Growing, focused, and investing in the future of audit
